Accurate GPS Synchronized Timing Device
The Accurate GPS Synchronized Timing Device provides accurate UTC (Coordinated Universal Time) event timing and can be useful in a variety of applications ranging from timing car races to finding out the rate of actuator delays in an industrial setting with Control Systems. The base unit is a small device which can time (in 25nanosec resolution) a trigger signal or an electrical pulse (3.3V CMOS Logic) with an accuracy of 200nsecs (one sigma). Along with this, the device provides high-resolution GPS (Global Positioning System) location and GPS/UTC timing data. It communicates on UART data rates ranging from 9600bps – 115200bps.
With a magnetically-mounted GPS antenna and an easy-to-use software tool the unit has been designed to be accurate and simple to use. The unit can be powered with 6V – 9V for battery operation. A single unit can time four different events/triggers, and many more can be added by using multiple of these devices simultaneously. The device is highly configurable to fit the needs of the user, maintaining stability at all times. Although it works best at a steady room temperature (200nsecs accuracy), it provides high accuracy over its full operating range since it uses a temperature-controlled crystal oscillator.
